Trans-Oral Brushing for EBVDNA for NPC Screening

This is the academic publication presented and discussed at the Joint Annual Scientific Meeting of the Malaysian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and the Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Singapore on 20 April 2014 at the Awana Genting Resort, Pahang, Malaysia.
Trans-Oral Brushing for EBVDNA is being positioned as a simple to use, effective and highly specific and sensitive procedure for screening to detect early nasopharyngeal carcinoma. (NPC).
NPC is endemic in South East Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines) which has a large migrant population of Chinese of Southern origin. It is a cancer with excellent prognosis especially when detected at an early stage when radiotherapy alone suffices to control and eradicate the disease. Radiotherapy is now accurately delivered through image modulation and thus radiotherapy morbidities of early mucosal damage and late cranial nerve palsies are increasingly uncommon.
